Larry New, Tom Tyler elected to trustee board
HUNTINGTON, IN --- The Huntington College Board of Trustees met October 17-18, 1996 on the Huntington campus. New board members and officers were elected, among them Larry New, Tom Tyler, and Carol Shuttleworth.
Larry New is a 1971 graduate of Huntington College. He is the owner of Heritage Medical Group, an array of healthcare related companies based in Yorktown, Indiana. He has served as a member of the Indiana Healthcare Association, the American Healthcare Association, and the Muncie Chamber of Commerce. He resides with his wife, Cheryl, in Muncie, Indiana.
Tom Tyler is the former president of Shuttleworth, Inc., an international manufacturer of conveyor systems based in Huntington, Indiana. He formerly served as president of the international division of Wheelabrator-Frye, and as vice president of Clark Equipment Co. He is a past chairman of the Huntington County Chamber of Commerce. He has also served as vice president of the Huntington YMCA Foundation. He has served as a member of the Dartmouth College Alumni Council, the American Management Association's International Council, and the Granger Rotary Club. He has formerly served on Huntington College's board of trustees in his capacity as president of the Huntington College Foundation. He resides in Granger, Indiana, with his wife, Kathryn.
In addition to these new appointments, Carol Shuttleworth of Huntington was elected to the Board of Trustees for a three-year term, beginning in October, 1997. Shuttleworth has been an active member of the Huntington College Foundation. She has also served on the Merillat Centre for the Arts Advisory Board since its inception in 1990. She formerly served as a trustee from 1988 to 1993.
David McGinnis of Grand Rapids, Michigan, was named secretary of the board for 1996-97. McGinnis has served as a trustee since 1992. He is the president of McGinnis and Associates, Inc., a wood veneer sales company based in Ada, Michigan.
Judge Paul Cherry was named vice chairman and chairman-elect. Cherry is a 1973 graduate of Huntington College, and an adjunct professor of business law at his alma mater. Cherry served as a prosecuting attorney before being elected judge of the Circuit Court of DeKalb County, Indiana. As judge, he has handled highly publicized cases involving nationally-known utility companies and auto makers, as well as two death penalty cases. Cherry has been named Sagamore of the Wabash, Indiana's highest civilian award.
C. Ray Miller, retired bishop of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ, was re-elected for his fourth term as chairman of the Board of Trustees. He will be succeeded by Cherry next year.
