‘Live Bait’ prepares for summer ministry
HUNTINGTON, IN May 8, 1997 --- "Live Bait," a ministry of Huntington College, will visit three different camps this summer to minister to campers with improvisational theatre. They will open on June 15 at Camp Michindoh, continue on to Camp Living Water, and close at the United Methodist Church's 1997 Senior High Institute through August 1.
The Huntington College students will present short sketches several times a day supporting each keynote speaker's theme. In addition, the college team will teach afternoon workshops in basic acting technique and improvisation.
"Live Bait" takes its name from the words of Jesus Christ, "Follow me and I will make you fishers of men." The students aim to use their talents to communicate timeless truths and help teens discover biblical solutions to real issues of life.
1997 graduate Sam Ward will perform, as well as manage and direct the group. "Our main objective is to do excellent theatre as well as being dynamic role models. We plan to create a really excellent theatre experience for the kids." Ward is a theatre and English double major from Darlington, Pennsylvania.
The Huntington College cast includes:
Jared Friesen, a junior psychology major from Huntington, Indiana. A veteran of Huntington College theatre, he has performed in William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet and The Dining Room.
Matthew Webb, a junior theatre major from Huntington, Indiana. Webb has performed on the Huntington College stage in such productions as William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet, Godspell, and The Rainmaker.
Katherine Mueller, a sophomore theatre major from Fort Wayne, Indiana. Mueller has acted in the Huntington College theatre productions of Steel Magnolias and Fiddler on the Roof.
Dawn Davis, a junior theatre major from Wawaka, Indiana. Davis has graced the stage in the productions of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever and Fiddler on the Roof.
"Live Bait" was cast and created by Dr. Don Rainbow, professor of theatre. Rainbow earned his BA, MA, and Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. His career has included over twenty years in education, theatre, and ministry. Rainbow's creativity always bring capacity audiences to his home theatre, the Merillat Centre for the Arts on the campus of Huntington College.
