Longaker showcases top musical talent

Huntington, Ind. "The Department of Music at Huntington College will present the Longaker Honors Recital on March 12 at 7 p.m., in the Longaker Recital Hall of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. The recital, which showcases some of Huntington College's finest musical talents, is open to the public. Students underwent rigorous auditions to be selected for the Longaker Honors Recital. Dr. Rick Sowers, from Anderson University, judged the auditions and chose the following for this year's recital:
- Drew Wutke, a freshman pianist from Girard, Kan. He will perform Toccata by Antonio Tauriello.
- Laurel Miller, a senior soprano from Huntington, Ind. She will sing In quelle trine morbide by Giacomo Puccini, accompanied by pianist Jud Yutzy, a junior from London, Ohio.
- Christina Watson, a freshman pianist from Chambersburg, Pa. She will perform Valse Brillante, Op. 20 by Mana-Zucca.
- Julie Porter, a freshman soprano from Addison, Mich. She will sing Mase colpaio non ho! Batti, batti, o bel Masetto from Don Giovanni by W.A. Mozart, accompanied by Benjamin Kendall.
- Katie Smith, a senior French horn player from Oak Creek, Colo. She will perform Concerto No. 2 in E-flat Major for Horn and Piano, K. 417 by Mozart, accompanied by pianist Darlene Burkett.
- Sarah Stanek, a senior soprano from Indianapolis, Ind. She will sing Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5, accompanied by guitarist Michael Brennan
- Leah Coon, a sophomore pianist from Sand Creek, Mich. She will perform Sonatine by Maurice Ravel.
General admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students and seniors. Advance tickets can be purchased at the Merillat Centre for the Arts Box Office by calling (260) 359-4261.
Music is one of 60 concentrations at Huntington College, which offers graduate and undergraduate programs. US News and World Report ranks Huntington among the best in the Midwest.
