Marla Schrock pursues summer research in biochemistry

Huntington, Ind.- Marla Schrock, a student at Huntington College, has been selected to participate in a summer research program in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine (KY). Under the supervision of Dr. Pamela Feldhoff, Miss Schrock will study immune deficiencies of pre-mature and full-term babies.

Her research will focus on the presence of complement proteins, particularly how cytokines regulate the synthesis and secretion of these key substances before and after the onset of bacterial sepsis.

Ms. Schrock is a senior chemistry major at Huntington College, a Christian liberal arts college in Huntington, Indiana. A graduate of Northwood High School, Marla is the daughter of Adlai and Jane Schrock of Wakarusa, Indiana.

In May, Ms. Schrock was awarded a $500.00 scholarship from the Northeast Indiana section of the American Chemical Society. The award was presented to her at a formal dinner at the Auburn-Cord-Dusenberg Museum in Auburn, Indiana. The scholarship will help Ms. Schrock complete her pre-medical studies at Huntington College.
