‘Matinee with the Maestro’ returns to Merillat

HUNTINGTON, IN-- Good Humor-Breyers Ice Cream and the Merillat Center for the Arts will present "Matinee with the Maestro" on Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m. The Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra will perform "The Magic Flute," Mozart's last great opera, along with familiar works by Smith, Handel, Copland, Beethoven, Haydn, Mussorgsky and Stravinsky.

The presentation of "The Magic Flute" will be accompanied by the projection of interpretive artwork created by area school children. This "Symphonic Palette" is a result of a creative partnership among the Huntington County Schools, Bluffton-Harrison Schools, Arts Express, the Merillat Centre for the Arts, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra and the Region 8 Education Service Center. Symphonic Palette offered students the opportunity express their artistic talents through artwork they created while listening to Mozart's "Magic Flute."

To experience the integration of art and music, area students were encouraged to create two- dimensional visual art inspired by "The Magic Flute." Seven works were chosen from each participating school to be presented during the concert.

The Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra will perform under the direction of assistant director David Borsvold. The general admission tickets are $3. Concert goers are invited to stay for a free ice cream party following the concert at the Habecker Dining Commons given by Good Humor-Breyers .
