McKanna joins exercise science faculty

Huntington, Ind. "Jule McKanna recently accepted appointment as Visiting Instructor of Exercise Science at Huntington University. McKanna, is already a well-known face on the University campus. Since 1999, McKanna has served as part of the HU adjunct faculty, and she currently serves as the Mindscape Program Director for Huntington University's Thornhill Nature Preserve.

McKanna holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Huntington University and a Master of Science degree in physical education from Indiana State University. She has also begun doctoral studies at Indiana University.

McKanna has professional experience in a variety of exercise science and sports medicine settings. She has served as a fitness coordinator for the Vermillion County Hospital Wellness Center, an exercise physiologist at the Indiana Center for Rehabilitation Medicine, and as co-coordinator of the sports medicine program for the Riverview Hospital Physical Therapy Department.

McKanna also has extensive experience in the educational field. From 1994 to 1999, she served as director of marketing and promotions for the Indiana Career and Postsecondary Advancement Center. Since 1999, she has served on the adjunct faculty at HU, teaching courses in physical education, exercise physiology, exercise prescription, wellness, kinesiology, and environmental science.

Most recently, McKanna has been in charge of the Thornhill Nature Preserve, a 77 acre site where Huntington University offers outdoor experiential learning. McKanna has led Thornhill in promoting collaborative programs between HU and the community. She has also formed strong connections with HU's education department by using education students to help teach curriculum to area schoolchildren.

McKanna is a member of the Association for Challenge Course Technology, the Association of Experiential Education, and Project Adventure.
