Memphis Marathon becomes father-son affair

HUNTINGTON, IN NOVEMBER 27, 1996 --- Of the ten Huntington College runners set to participate in Sunday's First Tennessee Memphis Marathon, four have chosen to make it a father-son outing.

Huntington College president G. Blair Dowden will run alongside his son, Beau. "Thanksgiving weekend is traditionally a time for families to be together," said the elder Dowden. "I'm privileged to run with Beau on Sunday. I just hope he takes it easy on me." Beau Dowden is a junior at Huntington College preparing for a career in medicine.

The College's track and cross country coach, Tom King, also will be joined by his son, Dan. The younger King, a junior at Huntington College, is a NAIA Cross Country All-American Scholar Athlete. Dan King was one of 55 honored at an awards ceremony during the recent NAIA Cross Country National Championships. Dan is pursuing a degree in chemistry education.
