Music Department presents The Old Maid and the Thief

Huntington, Ind. "The 2004 Huntington College Music Department will present an opera workshop, The Old Maid and the Thief. An often hilarious, but mostly heart-wrenching story of an old woman's propriety, a young woman's fantasy and the audacity of a criminal mind will open on Thursday, October 14, at 7:30 p.m., in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. Admission is $2.00 and the public is cordially invited to attend. Originally conceived as a radio opera, The Old Maid and the Thief was written by American composer Gian-Carlo Menotti. The cast for this Huntington Area Lyric Opera production will include Dana Frick, a junior vocal performance major from Kendallville, Ind., as Miss Todd, the old maid; Maria Rhodes, a junior music education and performance major from Celina, Ohio, as Laetitia, the servant; Lori Merkle, a senior elementary education major from Walton, Ky., as Miss Pinkerton, the neighbor; and Dr. John Thompson, Huntington College instructor of applied Voice and opera workshop, as Bob, the thief.
