Music ensembles to present Canticle of Christmas

Huntington, Ind. "Six Huntington College music ensembles will come together to usher in the Christmas holiday. Canticle of Christmas, held in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts, will be held on Friday, December 3, 2004, at 7:30 p.m. The Brass and Wind Ensembles, the Women's Chorale, the Handbell Choir, the Mallet Ensemble, and the Piano Duo will take the stage for this Christmas musical extravaganza. The public is cordially invited to attend. Tickets are $8 for general admission, $6 for seniors, and $4 for students. This Christmas program will offer traditional carols and several musical arrangements by Huntington College students and professors. The Wind Ensemble will present three soloists: Jason Lucker on trumpet for Joy to the World, Kate Kelley on clarinet for Deck the Halls, and Marvin McNew, Jr., on saxophone for We Three Kings. The Brass Ensemble's musical offerings will include a transcription of a Renaissance mote and arrangements of Up on the Housetop and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. Additional musical selections are Parade of the Wooden Soldiers, March of the Toys, Carol of the Bells and Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee. Other special features of the evening will include an original mallet piece by composition student Sarah Prater, a narration of The Christmas Journey by Dr. Tom Bergler, assistant professor of Ministry and Missions, and an arrangement by music professor Benjamin Kendall of Infant Holy, Infant Lowly, which will be performed by the Women's Chorale.
