Music Therapy to be topic at breakfast

Huntington, Ind. " The Huntington College Women's Auxiliary will hold its Fall Breakfast Saturday, September 18, at 9 a.m., in the Habecker Dining Commons. Terra Rowley, who is a board-certified Music Therapist, will be the special speaker on the topic of "Health and Harmony: A Look at Music Therapy". Rowley has a B.A in vocal performance from Northwestern University and a MA from Florida State in music therapy. She has provided music therapy in the fields of geriatrics, psychiatric adults, developmentally disabled, special education and corrections. Rowley currently serves with the YWCA Domestic Violence Services, is an adjunct professor at IPFW in music therapy, and has her own private practice called Health and Harmony Music Therapy Services.
At the breakfast Rowley will give an overview of music therapy as a profession with examples of the different uses and benefits. She will discuss the different populations groups that can be helped with music therapy and give examples of why music therapy works. There will be opportunities for questions and interaction.
The Huntington College Women's Auxiliary has been a part of the life of the college since 1903 and is always involved in several projects to benefit students. A recent completed project was a gift of furniture and accents for Hardy Lower Lounge. The newest project is furniture and accents for Baker Hall. Auxiliary projects are supported by members who pay a membership fee of $2.00. Officers for this year are: President, Barbara Fetters, Vice President Pat Jones, Secretary Ruth Weber, Treasurer Jean Root, Corresponding Secretary Elaine Miller. A short business meeting will be held.
