Nalliah awarded Chemist of Year by ACS
Huntington, Ind.-The Northeastern Indiana Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) recently awarded the 2005 Chemist of the Year Award to Dr. Ruth Nalliah, associate professor of chemistry at Huntington College.
The award comes after Nalliah's four years of service to the organization as Section Chair, during which the Society hosted past ACS president Dr. Helen Free, held a Laboratory Safety Seminar for industrial and academic chemists, and sponsored a State Police Lab tour.
ACS is one of the largest professional organizations devoted to a single discipline, and the Northeastern Indiana Section has a membership of over 100 academic and industrial chemists. The Section also distributes scholarship awards to high school and college students for excellence in chemistry.
Nalliah, who received her Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry from Bluffton College and the Ph.D. in experimental physical chemistry from the University of Toledo, is the third Huntington College-related recipient of this award. Previous HC-related recipients of the award include Dr. Jerry Smith and alum Wendell Mason.
