New faculty to be introduced at Foundation Breakfast

Huntington, Ind. " Dr. Norris Friesen, vice president and dean of Huntington College, will introduce new faculty members at the September Foundation Breakfast on Wednesday, September 8, 2004. The public is cordially invited to attend. The breakfast will begin at 7:45 a.m., in the Habecker Dining Commons and conclude by 9:00 a.m. The cost of the breakfast is $6.00 per person. First time attendees to the breakfast series eat free. Breakfast meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month, September through May. Six new faculty members join the campus community for the 2004-05 year. Mr. Andrew D. Dickson begins as assistant professor of art. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in youth work from Western Baptist College in Salem, Ore., and his Master of Fine Arts degree in painting and drawing from California State University in Long Beach, Calif. Dickson has taught at California State University, Long Beach City College and has served as a youth director. He and his wife, Jenny, come to the area from Long Beach, Calif.
Ms. Beth Felker Jones begins at Huntington as assistant professor of bible and religion. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from DePauw University and her Master of Theological Studies degree from Duke University Divinity School. Felker Jones has taught at Duke University Course of Study School, Duke Divinity School and Duke Youth Academy for Christian Formation. She and her husband, Brian, come to the area from Durham, N.C.
Mr. Benjamin Kendall has accepted a one-year appointment as instructor in music. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree in music education from Southwest Baptist University in Fort Worth, Texas, and his Master of Music degree in church music from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. He has taught at Georgetown Music Association and the McKinney Institute of Christian Arts. Kendall has taught part-time in the music department at Huntington College since 2002.
Ms. Twyla Lee begins as associate professor of social work and director of social work education. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Bethel College in Bethel, Minn., and her Master of Social World degree from George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. Lee was the director of social work at Taylor University from 1993-2004, and has also taught at the University of St. Francis, Tabor College and Freeman Junior College. She and her husband, Steve, live in Huntington.
Dr. Robert Lynn has accepted a one-year appointment as instructor in music. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in music from William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo., and his Master of Arts degree in music performance from Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo. Lynn also earned the Doctor of Arts degree in tuba performance with a cognate in music theory from Ball State University. He has taught part-time in the Huntington College Music Department since 2000. He and his family live in North Manchester, Ind.
Mr. David S. Shamburger begins as assistant professor of theatre. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in theatre from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La., and his Master of Fine Arts degree in acting and musical theatre from the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, Nev. Shamburger has taught at Middle Georgia College and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He has also gained experience in acting and directing. He and his wife, Kristie Brannon-Shamburger, have moved to the area from Cochran, Ga.
The Foundation Breakfast schedule for the rest of the year will include Mr. Charlie Mason, President and CEO of Parkview Health, on October 13; Mr. Steve Platt, Head Men's Basketball Coach at Huntington College, on November 10; Huntington College Music Department Christmas Spectacular on December 8; Mr. James O'Donnell's Annual Economic Forecast on January 12; Mrs. Carol Shuttleworth, President and CEO of Shuttleworth, Inc., on February 9; Huntington College Enterprise Resource Center on March 9; Spring Break missions trips reports on April 13; and Dr. G. Blair Dowden's State of the College Report on May 11.
