Percussionist to perform senior recital

Huntington, Ind.-Huntington University senior Ben Thompson will perform his senior recital at 7 p.m. on Feb. 9 in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. Thompson is a percussion performance major who will perform on a variety of percussion instruments such as the marimba, xylophone, timpani and drums.

Thompson of Covington, Ind., has played percussion since the age of eight. While attending Covington High School, Thompson participated in the honors band for three years and in Indiana State School Music Association solo and ensemble for six years. In his senior year of high school, he received a perfect score at district as well as at the state level.

During his Huntington University career, Thompson has studied percussion under Eric Schweikert, the principal timpanist for the Fort Wayne Philharmonic.

While at Huntington University, Thompson has participated in the wind ensemble, orchestra, pep band and jazz ensemble. He has performed with the Bach Collegians in Fort Wayne as well as various churches and organizations in the Huntington area. He also has been a member of the university's Joyful Noise and Preeminence.

Upon graduation, Thompson plans to continue his music career through an orchestra or in studio work.

The recital is open to the public, and there is no admission charge.
