Philharmonic to bring spirit of Christmas to Huntington

Huntington, Ind.-Northeastern Indiana's most popular and beloved holiday event returns to Huntington University at 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 9 when the Fort Wayne Philharmonic goes on tour throughout northern Indiana.

Conductor Bradley Thachuk will lead the philharmonic in a colorful presentation of holiday music to thrill all ages. The orchestra will be joined by vocalists Jeffery Moore and Lindsey Helmer.

A family tradition for 20 years, Holiday Pops with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic includes an audience sing-a-long and a selection of familiar holiday music. Also on the program are timeless classics and holiday favorites including "I'll be Home for Christmas," "The Night before Christmas," "The Little Drummer Boy," "Sleigh Ride," and "Baby, It's Cold Outside."

Tickets are available by calling Huntington University's Merillat Centre for the Arts Box Office at (260) 359-4261. Ticket prices are $17-$21 for reserved seating, $5 for Huntington University students, discounted by $2 for students 13 and older as well as seniors, and half price for students 12 and younger. This event will be held in the Zurcher Auditorium in the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

In his position as the associate conductor for the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Bradley Thachuk is responsible for conducting subscription concerts, Holiday Pops concerts, all education and outreach concerts and the Fort Wayne Ballet, in addition to being music director for the Fort Wayne Youth Symphony Orchestra. Thachuk has conducted orchestras and opera in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Switzerland, Italy, Portugal, the United States and Canada. Thachuk received his master's degree and began doctoral studies in conducting at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music with Mark Gibson and Christopher Zimmerman. He continues his studies now privately with conductor Paavo Jarvi, music director of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.


Lindsey Helmer
Vocalist Jeffery Moore has been involved in many philharmonic ventures, including guest host for Holiday Pops and director/actor in "Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme." Moore holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in theatre from Indiana University - Bloomington. Fort Wayne audiences will remember him in roles such as "John Adams" in "1776," "Lumiere" in "Beauty and the Beast" and "Bob Ewell" in "To Kill a Mockingbird" at the Fort Wayne Civic Theatre.

Vocalist Lindsey Helmer is a 2004 graduate of Ball State University where she was a four-year featured soloist with the Ball State University Singers. She remained very active on campus, serving as Miss Ball State University and winning numerous talent awards including Best Female Soloist. She also has performed on the professional stage in Branson, Mo., with "Legends in Concert" and aboard ships with Royal Caribbean.

Now performing its 64th season, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic with Music Director Edvard Tchivzhel is a member of the League of American Orchestras and a funded member of Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne, the Indiana Arts Commission and National Endowment for the Arts.
