Prominent cellist to visit Huntington College
Huntington, Ind.-Avant-garde cellist Madeleine Shapiro will present her multimedia program VOICES on Monday, May 7 at 8 p.m. in the Longaker Recital Hall of the Merillat Centre for the Arts, located on the Huntington College campus.

In her attempt to introduce new people to the avant-garde style, Shapiro will also be available throughout the day to interact with guests. She will speak to several Huntington College music classes, which are open to the public. Shapiro was a co-director and cellist for The New Music Consort from 1974-1996. She is now serves as adjunct professor at Mannes College of Music in New York City and is one of the foremost performers and directors of experimental music in the United States. She has performed VOICES at colleges and universities all across the country, concerts that included numerous premiere performances of recent works for cello, many of which were written specifically for her by a wide variety of American, European and Asian composers.
