Huntington, Ind.-The Dayton, Ohio-based dance team of Rhythm in Shoes will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 28 at Huntington University.

Rhythm in Shoes is a critically-acclaimed dance troupe that has toured more than 47 states, as well as Canada, Japan and Ireland. Formed in 1987, Rhythm in Shoes has used American music and dance-including tap, swing and clogging-to achieve one mission: to engage the world in music and dance.

Members of Rhythm in Shoes perform.
With many shows prepared, Rhythm in Shoes will perform "Banjo Dance: A Celebration of American Spirit" in the Zurcher Auditorium of Huntington University's Merillat Centre for the Arts. A collision of the British Isles and African cultures, the traditional music and dance of the Southern Appalachians is the inspiration for "Banjo Dance."

Pulling from flatfooting, clawhammer banjo playing, fiddling, square dancing and more, "Banjo Dance," represents what makes Dayton, Ohio, what is today considering its ancestry from Kentucky, West Virginia and Tennessee.

Tickets are $18 for reserved seating, $16 for seniors and students, $5 for Huntington University students and $13.50 for Huntington University faculty and staff. To purchase tickets or for more information, call the Merillat Centre for the Arts Box Office at (260) 359-4261.
