Robert E. Wilson Gallery announces 2005-2006 exhibits

Huntington, Ind. "The Huntington University Robert E. Wilson Gallery will feature something for everyone in its 2005-2006 schedule. This year's exhibits include children's book illustrations, a photo documentary, digital media works, ceramics, and the gallery's annual exhibits showcasing area high school students and Huntington University art students.

The gallery opens September 6 with Exploring Illustration by illustrator Patrick Girouard. Girouard has illustrated over 100 children's book using hand-made paper, colored pencil, markers, water color, fabric, guache, and digital media. The exhibit will be on display from September 6 to October 4. An artist reception for Girouard will be held Friday, September 16 from 6 - 7:30 p.m.

In October, two Huntington University professors will have their digital media works showcased. The exhibit Character and Motion: The Works of Bryan Ballinger and Stephan Leeper, will be on display from October 10 to November 4. Ballinger and Leeper recently joined the Huntington University faculty as instructors for HU's new Digital Media Arts program. Gallery visitors will have a chance to meet Ballinger and Leeper at a reception on Thursday, October 27, from 6 " 7:30 p.m.

From November 10 to December 11, the Wilson Gallery will exhibit Hands of a Displaced Sudan: A Cry for Compassion. This photo-documentary exhibit builds on Ryan Spencer Reed's travels through Sudan, Kenya and Chad. Reed, a documentary photojournalist, has selected over 70 images to illuminate this tragic story that continues to unfold in East Africa. Reed will also present on this topic on November 15 at the Huntington University Forester Lecture Series.

The exhibit Silhouette by Charlie Cummings will be the first for 2006 and will run from January 30 to February 24. Silhouette will feature ceramic work by Cummings, an area artist and gallery owner. An artist reception will be held for Cummings on Friday, February 17, from 6 - 7:30 p.m.

The Robert E. Wilson Gallery will conclude the 2005-2006 year with three exhibits by area students. First, the gallery will feature the Huntington University High School Art Exhibit, a juried invitational from regional high school seniors. The exhibit will display from March 7-25 and an artist reception and awards ceremony will be held Saturday, March 25 from 6 - 7:30 p.m.

On April 3-13, the Gallery will host its 16th Annual Juried Student Art Exhibit. This juried exhibit features works created by Huntington University visual art students during the current school year. The artist reception and awards ceremony will be held Saturday, April 8 from 6 -7:30 p.m.

Finally, Huntington University's talented graduating visual arts majors will display their senior projects on April 20-May 5. Meet HU senior artists Sarah Clifford, Lynsi Griffin, Kristi Thompson, Heather Hatfield, and Amanda Reed at an artist reception on Saturday, April 22 from 6 - 8:00 p.m.
