Robert E. Wilson Gallery to display Drawn in Color
FOR RELEASE: Wednesday, February 25, 2004
Huntington, Ind. " The Robert E. Wilson Gallery in the Huntington College Merillat Centre for the Arts is pleased to host Drawn in Color, an art exhibit by David Harmon, Associate Professor of Art at Bethel College. The exhibit will be on display from February 26 through March 25, and can be viewed Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and before all MCA events. An artist reception will be held for Harmon in the Robert E. Wilson Gallery on Thursday, March 25, from 6-7:30 p.m. The public is cordially invited to attend.
Harmon's exhibit will include his recent drawings using a pastel medium. His work strives to make complete visual statements at a specific moment in time, allowing him to create a collage of rich imagery.
In his artwork, Harmon endeavors to construct scenes of real people, objects or interior. Words have power, but so do visual images which in my case convey realistic and symbolic human conditions, said Harmon. My work depicts human beings in their environment or just still life sans figure.
Harmon received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting at Webster University in St. Louis, Mo., in 1977. In 1982, Harmon earned his Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting from the School of Visual Art at Pennsylvania State University. He has taught at various institutions including Pennsylvania State University, University of Southern Mississippi, University of Arizona, Potsdam College of the State University of New York, the Liverpool Institute of Higher Education in Liverpool, England, Keystone Junior College, Ball State University, and most recently at Bethel College in Mishawaka, Ind.
Harmon has given numerous lectures, workshops and art exhibits across the nation and is a member of several professional organizations including the National Council of Art Administrators, College Art Association, Mid America College Art Association, and Foundations in Art Theory and Education.
