Robert Sommers hired as director of financial aid

Robert Sommers, Huntington University, a Christian collegeHUNTINGTON, Ind. Robert Sommers, formerly the head of financial aid at Indiana Wesleyan University, has been hired as Huntington University's new director of financial aid.

Sommers comes to the university having most recently served as the technology coordinator for financial aid at Indiana Wesleyan. Prior to that position, he worked as the Midwest regional director for Edfinancial Services/EdAmerica for four years and director and then executive director of financial aid at Indiana Wesleyan for seven years.

"Robert brings a wonderful blend of professional experience and personal strengths to the director of financial aid role at Huntington. Not only does he have an extensive background of leadership in the financial aid field, but he brings a broad knowledge of the higher education loan industry and of core enrollment management techniques to the position, as well," said Jeff Berggren, senior vice president for enrollment management and marketing.

Sommers graduated from Indiana Wesleyan with a degree in accounting and business administration in 1993 and later earned his MBA from the school in 1998.

He is a member of the Indiana Student Financial Aid Association as well as the Midwest and National Association of Student Financial Aid Association.

"My experience with traditional, adult and graduate students means I understand the challenges the financial aid process brings to families from a wide variety of backgrounds," Sommers said. "All of professional experience aside, I am simply a person who genuinely enjoys working with students and families as they pursue their educational dreams and the financing avenues that provide the access and make the dream a reality."
