Senior Art Show features three graphic design majors

Huntington, Ind.- The Robert E. Wilson Gallery of the Merillat Centre for the Arts at Huntington College presents "A Long Way From Fingerpaints," a senior art show featuring works of HC students, Charice Jordan, Christian Elden and Maleah Hoit. The show will run from April 8-19, 2002. An artists' reception will be held on Saturday, April 13, from 6-8 p.m. The public is cordially invited to attend. Admission is free and the gallery is open to the public weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and before all Merillat Centre performances.

Charice Jordan, a native of Richmond, Ind., will complete her Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design in May. Her works featured in the exhibit include computer illustration and several large collage posters. "Using overlapping colors, textures and papers in the collages, I sought to suggest layers of emotions and thoughts throughout each piece," said Jordan. "The posters are an attempt to show the vast chaotic environment of emotion within three human experiences."

Christian Elden, a native of Edgerton, Ohio, will complete his Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design in May. His works featured in the exhibit include a children's book that he wrote and illustrated and a marketing campaign for his relative's business, which incorporates media for print and the web. Speaking of his children's book, Elden stated, "Thinking back on my childhood, a huge part of the messages that I received during those integral years was brought to me through the words and images of children's picture books. Illustrations I saw in children's books as I grew older are still vivid in my mind to this day. This was a big reason for my initial interest in art early on in my life."

Maleah Hoit, a senior from Richmond, Ind., will complete her Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design in May. Her works featured in the exhibit include logos done for her parent's furniture store and nature photography illustrating verses from the Bible. "I wanted to show God's artwork through my photography with what He has given to us," stated Hoit. "He has created everything in such a unique way. My hope is that the viewer will look at the photos and remember all of the blessings we have received from God."
