Huntington, Ind. "The Robert E. Wilson Gallery of the Merillat Centre for the Arts at Huntington College presents the works of HC art students, Richard Bloom and Nathan Skaggs, from Nov. 26-Dec. 7. The exhibit will feature their senior art shows. An artists' reception will be held on Saturday, December 1, from 6-8 p.m. The public is cordially invited to attend. Admission is free and the gallery is open to the public weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and before all Merillat Centre performances.
Bloom, a native of Fremont, Ohio, will graduate with a degree in Graphic Design. Featured in his show are two projects, the first of which combines photography with elements of design to create several CD layouts in Adobe Photoshop and Macromedia Freehand. The CD's were designed for a variety of bands in order to show how art can be used to help describe the style of music played.
Bloom's second project utilizes a multimedia format to create an interactive comic book. Done in Macromedia Freehand and Flash, this project shows how traditional print media can evolve into more modern forms of communication using multimedia technology.
Skaggs, a native of Fort Wayne, Ind., will graduate with a degree in Art Education. His exhibit features both fine arts and graphic/industrial design. Skaggs' fine art piece comes from a vision he had during a small group meeting. He divided that vision into stages and painted each on masonite with oils. The paintings are organized in sequence and are all housed in a cathedral frame.
His second project is detailed renderings of automobiles, done in marker and colored pencil on illustration board. The automobiles were designed from scratch using french curves and other mechanical aids following a draftsman approach. The computer was used to aid in symmetry. There are multiple views for each car.
