Senior recital shines spotlight on Nelson

Huntington, Ind. "Huntington University senior Kendra Mae Nelson will perform her senior recital at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 19 in the Longaker Recital Hall in the Merillat Centre for the Arts. The recital is open to the public with no admission charge.

Nelson's recital will showcase pieces in five languages by various composers such as Scarlatti, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Joaquin Rodrigo, and Albert Hammond. An English education major and Spanish minor from Fort Wayne, Ind., Nelson has been taking voice lessons from Dr. John Thompson for the last two years. Dr. Thompson is the assistant professor of applied voice & opera workshop for Huntington University.

During her Huntington University career, Nelson has been involved in the Women's Chorale, Concert Choir, and Jazz Ensemble. She also held the role of Kate in Pirates of Penzance and toured with Preeminence, the University's worship ensemble, as a pianist and vocalist during the summer of 2004.

She is an accomplished pianist and has conversational fluency in Spanish, which she plans to use in a future career, possibly in Central or South America. She currently tutors a kindergartner in English as a Second Language, serves as a member of Kappa Delta Pi Education Honor Society, and is the president of Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society.
