Shannon Jarrard presents ‘Whimsical Chaos’

HUNTINGTON, IN FEBRUARY 3, 1997 --- Shannon Jarrard, a senior at Huntington College, will present an exhibit of original works in the Robert E. Wilson Gallery of the Merillat Centre of the Arts, February 15-28. A public reception will be held for the artist February 15, 6-9 p.m. at the gallery.

Jarrard plans to exhibit a variety of works, including black and white photography, oil paintings, graphite and charcoal drawings, two-dimensional designs, along with some three dimensional pieces.

Jarrard is a senior at Huntington College pursuing a double major in graphic design and print media communications. She is the daughter of Danny and Sherrill Jarrard of Columbus, Indiana.

Jarrard graduated from Columbus North High School in 1992, where she studied art under teachers Dennis Knune and Dale Patterson. Jarrard was the recipient of the 1992 Columbus Art League Student Scholarship. Jarrard has won two Huntington College art awards in the past: first place in black and white photography in 1994 for a series of four entitled, "A Place in Time;" and the People's Choice Award in 1996 for a multi-media oil painting sculpture, "In the Eye of the Dragon."

Jarrard stated that the title of her show, "Whimsical Chaos," explains a lot about her works and her artistic inspirations. "Art seems to pull at me until it is created," she says, "and once it starts to come alive it just seems to flow from everything that I have learned. I draw creative inspiration from such greats as Van Gogh, Cezanne, Matisse, and then add my own modern approaches and ideas. Art does not always have to be serious; it can be fun and light, yet still mean something, too."
