Smith receives national service award

Huntington, Ind. "Martha Smith, assistant dean of student development at Huntington University, recently received the Don Boender Distinguished Service Award. The award, given by the Association for Christians in Student Development (ACSD), honors a professional in the field of student development who has 20-plus years of service and has made important contributions in the field of Christian student development. We here at Huntington are fortunate to have Martha as a member of our staff, and this award affirms her valued contribution to the field of Christian student development, said Ron Coffey, vice president for student development at Huntington. We are proud of Martha and congratulate her on receiving this prestigious award from ACSD.
Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interpersonal and Public Communications from Bowling Green State University and a Master of Education degree in Counseling from Indiana University. She is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and has earned the LMHC (Licensed Mental Health Counseling). Smith has been employed at Huntington University for 17 years.
Smith received the award at the annual ACSD conference which was hosted by George Fox University in Newburg, Ore. Over 700 student development professionals were in attendance. Norris Friesen, vice president and dean of Huntington University, received the award two years ago.
