Smith releases ‘Britain and Origins of Vietnam War’

Huntington, Ind.-Dr. Timothy O. Smith, assistant professor of history at Huntington University, has released a new book titled "Britain and the Origins of the Vietnam War: UK Policy in Indo-China, 1943-50." "Offering a bold new interpretation of British foreign policy, 'Britain and the Origins of the Vietnam War' deftly examines Britain's involvement with Vietnam from Churchill's World War II deliberations - about Roosevelt's desire to remove Indo-China from the French Empire - to the zenith and subsequent unraveling of British foreign policy in 1950," said a description from Palgrave Macmillan, the book's publisher.
The 256-page hardcover book is available through the United Kingdom publisher's Web site. The U.S. release is scheduled for Nov. 13.
Dr. Timothy O. Smith
Smith joined the Huntington University faculty in the fall of 2007 after moving from the United Kingdom. He earned his Honors Bachelor of Arts degree in economic and social history from Leicester University, his Master of Arts degree in Asian history from London University, and his Ph.D. in history from the University of East Anglia. Since 2003, he has taught seminar classes and given lectures on a number of history units at the University of East Anglia's School of History. Smith is highly proficient in French and has a working knowledge of Khmer (Cambodian).
