Society for Romanian Studies elects Michelson president

Huntington, Ind. "Dr. Paul E. Michelson, distinguished professor of history at Huntington University, has been elected to a four year term, 2006-2009, as president of the Society for Romanian Studies. Dr. Paul E. Michelson
The SRS is the leading international organization for scholars interested in the study of Romanian culture and civilization, as well as in the histories of the countries of Romania and Moldova. It was founded in 1974 and is an affiliate of the American Historical Association, the American Political Science Association, and the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies.
Michelson has authored or co-authored four books on Romanian history (one of which was awarded a prize by the Romanian Academy and was selected by CHOICE as an outstanding academic book) and more than 90 scholarly articles. He has held three Fulbright fellowships for study in Romania (1971-1973, 1982-1983, 1989-1990) and serves on the editorial boards of several journals. He serves as the secretary of the Conference on Faith and History and as a member of the National Board of the South East European Studies Association.
One of the major responsibilities that he will have as SRS president is the organization of the 6th International Congress on Romanian Studies, which will be held in 2007 in Romania.
Michelson received the Ph.D. from Indiana University and has taught at Huntington University since 1974.
