Speech students ‘speak off’ to end semester

Huntington, Ind. " Eight Huntington College students squared off in the semi-annual Great Forester Speak Off, the event culminating each semester's speech classes. Each speech class chose two of its peers to participate based on the in-class deliveries of public-policy persuasive speeches. The students repeated their presentations May 5 before an audience of their peers and a panel of judges which included Mr. James O'Donnell, associate professor of business and executive in residence, Dr. Cynthia Steury, assistant professor of education, and Mr. John Paff, director of public relations and publications.

This semester's champion speaker was Charity Coffey, a junior educational ministries major from Marion, Michigan. She spoke on the nature of true giving and our role in helping to curb hunger and poverty in the world.

Miles Stock, a sophomore graphic design major from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, finished in second place. Third place went to Allison Taylor, a senior business major from Gahanna, Ohio. April Likens, a sophomore from Fort Wayne studying elementary education, finished in fourth place.

Michael O'Donnell, a sophomore English education major from Worthington, Ohio
