Student art show winners announced

Huntington, Ind.-Huntington University recently announced the winners of the 20th Annual Juried Student Art Exhibit.

The show was judged by Grace Benedict O'brien, artist and continuing instructor in the department of art and design at Purdue University. The exhibit is on display in the Robert E. Wilson Gallery in the Merillat Centre for the Arts until April 9.

The following students were recognized:

The Best of Show ($250) was awarded to Janna Kurzen, of Massillon, Ohio, for her painting titled, "The Corruption of Life."

First place ($150) was awarded to Becky Evans, of Zeeland, Mich., for her drawing titled, "Elephant in the Room."

Second place ($125) was awarded to Troy Huffman, of Angola, Ind., for his photography piece titled, "Live, Love, Laugh."

Third place ($100) was awarded to Juan Lopez, of Fort Wayne, Ind., for his 3-D sculpture titled, "The Stone."

Every year, the RichLyn Library and the Wilson Gallery also purchase pieces from the show. The library purchased "The Stone" by Lopez, and the gallery purchased a painting titled, "Anacapri," by Jamie Thurston, of Van Wert, Ohio.
