Students serve others during Spring Break

Huntington, Ind. "While many college students take advantage of the country's sunnier regions for their own enjoyment during Spring Break, several Huntington College students and staff have plans to spend their week serving others. Five service-oriented Spring Break trips will disseminate from the college campus beginning Friday, March 18, to destinations including Haiti, Jamaica, Atlanta, Boston, and Morgantown, W.V. The team to Haiti will work at a local children's home called House of Blessing. Students will also have the opportunity to assist a medial clinic and visit other orphanages and missions. The team will have a day to spend at Quisqueya Christian School, an English speaking Christian school where Huntington College alumna Lynda Barnum currently teaches.
Jamaica - photos >>
The Jamaica team will work with the Happy Grove High School and the Seaside Friends Church in Manchionial, Jamaica. They will help teachers in the classroom and will provide maintenance work for the school. In addition, they will work at the Muriton Boys' Home, an orphanage for 6-16 year-old boys.
Atlanta
The Atlanta group will work with a local organization called City of Refuge. They will prepare food for the homeless, work with several children's programs in the area and work at a food distribution warehouse. The Atlanta trip is organized by Huntington College's Joe Mertz Center for Volunteer Service, a student-directed organization that mobilizes the campus community for Christian service.
Boston
The Boston team has plans to volunteer at the Boston Project, a non-profit organization that lends a helping hand to those living in poverty in the inner-city. The team will join with another group of college students as they participate in a variety of daily service-oriented projects.
Morgantown, W.V. - photos >>
The Huntington College chapter of Habitat for Humanity will travel to Morgantown, W.V. to participate in the Collegiate Challenge at Mon County Habitat for Humanity. They will follow a Collegiate Challenge group from Princeton University, who began the framing of a house one week earlier. The Huntington group will continue work with siding, roofing, and finishing.
