Students to learn physical education activities at workshop

Huntington, Ind. "Twelve Huntington College students will attend an all-day workshop for elementary education teachers at Pokagon State Park on September 27. The students, who are members of the Physical Education in the Elementary School class, will attend a workshop for elementary education teachers in conjunction with the Midwest AAHPERD (American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance) Leadership Conference.

Dr. Pat Zezula, HC professor of physical education, will attend the conference and workshop from Sept. 26-29. She is a committee member for the Midwest Finance Committee of the AAHPERD. The Midwest District is composed of six state areas including Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan, West Virginia and Indiana.

Dance, Sport and Physical Education Council of the Midwest District for AAHPERD is sponsoring the Sept. 27 workshop. Session titles include Developing Appropriate Elementary Physical Education, Physical Best Fitness Activities, Simple Team Games, Integrating Curricular Activities, Orienteering Activities, Elementary Dances, Adapting Activities, and Early Elementary Activities.

The PE in the Elementary School class at HC is composed of three Physical Education majors and nine Elementary Education majors. The class is designed for the study of games, rhythms, stunts and other activities that are appropriate for the school curriculum. Emphasis is placed on characteristics of children at all age levels. The course includes observation and practical experiences for planning and teaching a program to meet the needs and capabilities of students.
