Summer day camps offered at Thornhill

Huntington, Ind. "Huntington College's Thornhill Nature Preserve will hold several one-week summer day camps on the grounds of Thornhill Nature Preserve, located at 2504 W 1000 N in Huntington, Indiana. All classes will be held from 8 a.m. " noon.

The Outdoor Discoveries class, for ages 8-12, will allow students to explore the outdoors through bird watching, insect identification, making sun prints and animal tracks and much more. This day camp will be held from July 19-23.

The Wilderness Survival class, for ages 10-14, will teach students how to build a shelter, build and sustain a fire, cook over an open fire, hang a bear bag and learn to tie various knots. This day camp will be held July 26-30.

The Hiking/Orienteering class, for ages 10-14, will teach students how to read a map and use a compass and GPS. Students will also learn the appropriate things to pack for hiking and take a day hike. This day camp will be held August 9-13.

Classes will be held to a maximum of 20 students each. One-week courses cost $100 per child with additional siblings getting a discounted rate of $75. Huntington College operates Thornhill Nature Preserve for the educational enrichment of its own students and the regional community.
