Summer Theatre Youth Camp to present ‘Music Man’

Huntington, Ind. "Huntington University's Summer Theatre Youth Camp participants will present a junior version of The Music Man at 2 and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, in Zurcher Auditorium in the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

General admission is $5 at the door. There is no reserved seating.

Meredith Willson's 'The Music Man' is an American musical classic, following fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill and his visit to River City, Iowa, where he convinces the town to adopt his revolutionary music program, 'The Think System,' or face the moral decline of the youngsters of River City, according to the Broadway Junior Web site.

This production is the capstone of Huntington University's first Summer Theatre Youth Camp. Through the four-week camp, children ages 6 to 15 learn basic theatrical training from theatre professionals and perform a fully produced musical theatre production. For youth ages 16-18, an apprentice program is offered at the same time. Apprentices are students with theatre interests that assist with facilitating the camp. They work more closely with the camp directors and serve as assistant directors, assistant choreographers, stage mangers and assistant designers.
