Theatre program to expand offerings

Huntington, Ind. "Beginning in the fall of 2005, the Huntington University Theatre Department will offer two new degrees in Theatre General Studies and Theatre Education. The Theatre department will also offer new courses to enhance the existing Theatre Performance and Design and Technology concentrations.

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre General Studies is designed for students who may choose to study theatre in a less intense program or wish to team their theatre major with an additional major. It will include courses from the core theatre classes as well as elective classes.

The Bachelor of Science degree in Theatre Education will prepare students for a career teaching theatre and also for related fields, such as drama ministry work and community theatre. The Theatre Education degree will draw from current performance, design and technology, and education classes. A new Theatre Arts Methods class will also be implemented.

In addition to adding these two new degrees, the Theatre Department also plans to strengthen its existing Theatre Performance and Design and Technology concentrations by adding additional courses in areas such as voice and movement, stage makeup, design, directing, acting, and theatre history and literature. The additional offerings will further prepare students to meet entrance requirements for graduate school or make the transition into professional theatre.
