Theatre students receive praise for I, Faustus

Huntington, Ind. "Jennifer Blackmer, associate professor of theatre at Ball State University, offered her praise for the Friday, February 25 performance of I, Faustus, by the Huntington College Theatre Company. I, Faustus, a student-created production, is Huntington College's second entry into the American College Theatre Festival (ACTF). Blackmer was in attendance to offer her response to the production. Blackmer commended the theatre program for undergoing the process to develop the play and also offered suggestions on ways to strengthen the overall production. I, Faustus, was written by Huntington College students who drew modern parallels from the themes presented in Christopher Marlow's, Dr. Faustus and Goethe's Faustus . Student writers presented the acting students with outlines and ideas, who then improvised scenes, dialogues, monologues and movements into an 80-minute play.
Kylie Edmonds, a sophomore theatre performance major from Bourbon, Ind., who played the role of Faustus, was selected to compete in the Irene Ryan Acting competition at next year's regional America College Theatre Festival. Theatre design and technology majors, senior Matt Chilcoat from Columbus, Ohio, who served as set designer, and junior Zarin Barnes from Peru, Ind., who provided lighting design, were selected to receive certificates of merit for their outstanding work in design.
