Two HU visual arts students to exhibit senior projects in gallery

Huntington, Ind. - The Huntington University Department of Visual Arts will showcase the works of two graduating visual arts students starting Nov. 22 through Dec. 8 in the Robert E. Wilson Gallery in the Merillat Centre for the Arts on campus.

Jamie Thurston, a senior graphic design and art education major from Van Wert, Ohio, and Ashley Ray, a senior graphic design major and fine arts minor from Elida, Ohio, will both exhibit their work in the show titled, "Through Prompted Melodies."

Thurston will display a series of eight 16 x 20 sepia tone photographs based on finding beauty in rustic, worn-down town architecture. Thurston also designed and completed a website for the Christian hardcore rock band "...It Was April."

Ray will be showcasing a collection of 10 11x14 photographs (a printed photography portfolio) and five save-the-date Invitations in promotion of her photography business, Ashley Ray Photography. The second portion of her senior project is a series of modern abstract paintings, emphasizing her journey throughout her college career.
An artist reception for the gallery event will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4 in the lobby of the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

The Wilson Gallery is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., before and after all Merillat Centre performances and by appointment. The gallery is free and open to the public.
