U.S. News names Huntington University among best

Huntington, Ind.-For more than a decade, U.S. News & World Report has consistently ranked Huntington University among the Midwest's best comprehensive colleges. The magazine's 2007 guide to America's Best Colleges is no exception. For the 12th consecutive year, Huntington University has earned a spot among the nation's top colleges and universities. This year's annual collegiate rankings listed Huntington as 16th among 107 institutions in the Midwest Comprehensive Colleges category. One of the nation's top Christian colleges, Huntington offers more than 70 academic concentrations, including seven degree programs that were launched during the past two years. The new programs include a master's degree in education and bachelor's degrees in digital media arts, economics and finance, political studies, social work, sports ministry and worship leadership.
"The U.S. News & World Report ranking is confirmation of our commitment to offering a high quality, Christian liberal arts education," said Dr. Norris Friesen, vice president and dean of the University. "I am pleased with the progress we have made thus far and anticipate that the new academic programs we have launched will reflect the same caliber of education we have been offering. I am grateful for the opportunity to work and teach with such a gifted and qualified faculty who are seriously committed to the integration of faith and learning."
To rank schools, U.S. News first organizes colleges and universities by category and then ranks them within each group. Rankings are based on a wide range of criteria, including academic reputation, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving.
In Indiana, St. Mary's College and Taylor University were ranked first and third, respectively, in the Midwest Comprehensive Colleges category. Following Huntington, Franklin College, Manchester College, St. Mary's-of-the-Woods College, Bethel College, St. Joseph's College and Tri-State University also were listed in the top tier.
Classes begin for Huntington University students on Aug. 28.
All U.S. News rankings will appear on the magazine's Web site (www.USNews.com) on Aug. 18. College-bound students can use the site to search for colleges and universities according to their own interests, fill out interactive worksheets and search for scholarship and financial aid information. The America's Best Colleges newsstand book and the weekly edition of U.S. News & World Report magazine (containing many of the rankings) will both go on sale Aug. 21.
