Weekly and Arganbright Return for Piano Concert

HUNTINGTON, IN SEPTEMBER 23, 1996 --- Concert pianists Dallas Weekly and Nancy Arganbright began their life and career together 39 years ago in Davis Hall at Huntington College. They will return to their musical home for a concert on Friday, September 27 at the Merillat Centre for the Arts. The concert, presented by Mrs. Janet Hafner, will begin at 8:00 PM in Longaker Recital Hall.

Weekly and Arganbright taught music at the College from 1957 to 1964, taking some time to travel and study in Europe. They performed in Huntington for the first time in 1957, using a signature style that became their trademark: four hands, one piano.

Weekly and Arganbright have presented more piano duet concerts than any other one-piano, four-handed team. The husband and wife team has performed in People's Republic of China, Korea, Taiwan, Russia, and throughout the United States. They have recently performed in such diverse settings as the South Bohemian Music Festivals and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC. The couple has appeared many times on the Captain Kangaroo Show.

Weekly and Arganbright are credited with helping to revive duet recitals, a tradition which dates to the 18th century. Most of the great composers of the Classic and Romantic eras contributed to the four-handed repertoire. Mozart even performed duets with his sister. Through their hundreds of concerts, recordings, publications, research, workshops and annual Four-Hand Festivals, Weekly and Argenbright have done much to bring the medium back into the public spotlight.

Tickets for the September 27 performance cost $7.00 for all seats. Reservations may be made by calling the Merillat Centre box office as (260)-356-6000, ext. 2060.
