Woodcarving students plan exhibit
HUNTINGTON, IN JANUARY 16, 1997 --- Students enrolled in Huntington College's January Term woodcarving class will exhibit their works on January 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Merillat Centre for the Arts. The public is cordially invited to attend.
Student artists include Nathan Averill of Adrian, Michigan; Laura Baker of Martinsville, Indiana; Hank DeHaven of Oxford, Indiana; Nathan Fox of Styker, Ohio; Linda Grafton of Fort Wayne, Indiana; John Hill of Huntington, Indiana; Shannon Jarrard of Columbus, Indiana; Shawn Kauzlick of Auburn, Indiana; Brian Milton of Bluffton, Indiana; Aaron Smith of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, and Professor James O'Donnell and his wife, Liz, both of Huntington.
Taught by Huntington woodcarver and retired chemistry professor Jim Howald, "The Art and Craft of Woodcarving" is an intensive introduction to carving techniques. Howald's students have systematically reviewed carving tools and their care, choice of wood, and various finishes. Relief carving, chip carving, and three dimensional carving were all introduced during the course.
Art is one of many programs available from Huntington College.
