Worfel joins Education Department faculty
FOR RELEASE: Tuesday, February 15, 2005
Huntington, Ind. " Dr. Paul Worfel recently joined the Huntington College faculty as assistant professor of education. He currently teaches classes in the Masters of Education program, which began its first classes with the start of spring semester on January 25, 2005. Worfel holds a Ph.D. in curriculum studies from Indiana University, a M.A. in education and professional development, a M.M. in performance and literature from the University of Rochester's Eastman School of Music and a B.M.E in instrumental music education from Central Michigan University.
One reason I was very enthusiastic about coming to Huntington College was that I sensed cohesiveness between the education faculty, Worfel said. This was demonstrated through a common passion for the teaching profession, sensitivity to the needs of school districts, and vision for future of teacher education at Huntington College. When questioning various sources as to the quality of teachers being developed at Huntington College, I received consistent responses affirming the high quality, both in character and technical ability, of the teacher candidates graduating from Huntington. It is only natural that a college with such a tradition of quality undergraduate education extend itself to the post-graduate domain. The Master's program offers post-graduate teachers in the surrounding area an opportunity to be professionally and academically challenged.
Before joining the Huntington faculty, Worfel taught education classes at Indiana University (2001-2004) and Indiana Wesleyan University (2003-2005).
Worfel has 19 years of grade school teaching experience in which he taught various music courses. He worked for Grant Public Schools (Grant, MI), Central Montcalm Public Schools (Stanton, MI) and Greece Central Schools (Rochester, NY). He also founded Homes in Service Ministries, Inc., a foster care organization for hard-to-place youth. He served this organization in Rochester, NY from 1976-1986.
