Yanovitch places first in national singing competition

Huntington, Ind.-Sarah Yanovitch, a freshman vocal performance major at Huntington University, placed first in the freshman women's division of the Great Lakes Regional NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) competition held March 7 at Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio.

She also was awarded the John Vickers Memorial Scholarship for most promising singer in the first and second year categories. Yanovitch performed "Fade, Vision Bright" from Three Songs of Adieu by Norman Dello Joio, on the winners recital at the end of the competition. She also performed songs and arias by Bach and Debussy during the first round of competition. Yanovitch, of Griswold, Conn., is a voice student of Joni Killian, adjunct faculty in Huntington University's Department of Music.
