Youth theatre camp to stage ‘Guys and Dolls Jr.’

Huntington, Ind.-Huntington University's Summer Theatre Youth Camp will present "Guys and Dolls Jr." at 2 and 7:30 p.m. on July 19 in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

Tickets are $5 and are available through cast members or by calling the MCA Box Office at (260) 359-4261. There is no reserved seating.

"'Guys and Dolls Jr.' is a colorful and hilarious musical with memorable tunes like 'Bushel and a Peck,' 'Adelaide's Lament' and 'Luck Be a Lady,' to name a few," said Kristi Shamburger, one of the camp's co-directors. "This is a redemptive story with lots of fun parts to be played."

This production is the capstone of Huntington University's third Summer Theatre Youth Camp and features all 58 campers in various roles. Through the four-week camp, campers entering grades kindergarten through 12 learn basic theatrical training from theatre professionals and perform a fully produced musical theatre production.

The camp continues to grow. In 2006, the first camp of 16 children performed "Music Man Jr." In 2007, the camp's enrollment for "Annie Jr." more than tripled from the previous year with 54 children.
