Calling all writers, readers, and creators! Consider this an official invitation from the Department of English at Huntington University to sign up for StoryCon 2024. Whether you enjoy writing, telling, or hearing stories, each form is important because it celebrates the created work and the author behind it. I could convince you to attend because of the creative magic of StoryCon, the invaluable direction from literary geniuses (aka StoryCon presenters), or the writing breakthroughs and confidence that students encounter, but I can’t tell the entire story alone. Let’s hear from my dearest English friends who have attended past StoryCon events:

“I really enjoyed meeting Huntington English alumni at previous StoryCon events. There were two women who graduated much before I had even applied to HU, but it was really neat to be instructed by them during their mini lesson and see the tremendous impact the Huntington Department of English made on their creativity,” says Chelsea Born, a junior English education major.

“I get to see how storytelling impacts different careers beyond mine (education), including everything from content writing to video game story development. As a future teacher, it is encouraging to see that the English and writing skills I teach my students are useful beyond what people narrowly think of as ‘writing careers,’” says senior English education major Thad Arnold.

“StoryCon was one of the first ways that I visited HU and got to meet people. So, it was cool to have conversations with other writers before even being a student here,” says English writing sophomore Emily Saxon.

“Each form of storytelling offers the writer the opportunity to explore distinct creative elements while challenging our ability to delve into uncomfortable topics. Our understanding of different artist mediums strengthens our admiration for stories,” says junior Alyssia Foust, English education major.

Be bold, step out of your comfort zone, and unlock all your creative writing power, knowing that every story, including your own, matters. Sign up for StoryCon 2024 today! StoryCon 2024 will take place Saturday, April 13, 2024, in the upper level of Habecker Dining Commons. StoryCon runs from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and includes lunch.
