Akins, Chafin recognized with Peer Awards

Huntington, Ind. "Recipients of the Huntington University Peer Award for the month of December are Susan Akins and Kris Chafin.

Susan Akins, right, receives the December Peer Award from Alicia McElhaney.
Alicia McElhaney, program coordinator for the EXCEL office, passed the Peer Award to Susan Akins. Akins is the assistant to the registrar and has been with the University for six years. In presenting the award to Akins, McElhaney said, Susan has such a servant's heart. She is always willing to assist others in whatever way she can. She is a wonderful listener and always has great advice. It is neat to see students stop by her office just to talk and give updates on their lives. Her uplifting and joyful spirit is a huge impact to the students and those she works with. Personally, Susan is an amazing friend. She is very supportive and encouraging.

Kris Chafin, right, receives the December Peer Award from Martha Smith.
Martha Smith, assistant dean of student development, passed the Peer Award to Kris Chafin. Chafin is the director of learning assistance and has worked at Huntington for 11 years. In recognizing Chafin, Smith said, Kris is very dedicated to helping students achieve their academic goals. She is Huntington's expert when it comes to working with students with disabilities. Kris will go the extra mile, making sure they have the accommodations they need to be successful at Huntington University. I have also observed Kris serving as a mentor to students. She has a strong desire to see students grow in their spiritual walk and will take extra time to 'walk along side' of them. Kris has been a supportive friend and colleague to me, and I appreciate all that she does.
