Alpha Chi students awarded scholarships

Huntington, Ind.-Three members of the Huntington University chapter of Alpha Chi National Honor Society were awarded scholarships at the National Convention of Alpha Chi National Honor Society April 2-4 in Indianapolis.

Will Braun, a senior English major from St. Cloud, Minn., was named the winner of an Alpha Chi National Benedict Fellowship for graduate study; Chris Sutton, a senior history major from Huntertown, Ind., won the Region V Graduate Fellowship; and Caitlynn Lowe, a junior English major from Bedford, Ohio, was the winner of the Region V Undergraduate Scholarship competition.

Chapter sponsor, Dr. Paul Michelson, noted that it was very unusual for a single chapter to win so many awards. "HU students continue to do well at Alpha Chi Conventions, both in the quality of their presentations and in the scholarship competitions," he said.

The HU chapter also received the Alpha Chi Star Chapter Award at the convention for the 14th straight time, one of only four chapters out of Alpha Chi's 300 plus chapters to win this award every year since it was inaugurated in the 1990s.

The convention theme this year was literacy. The HU chapter gathered some 200 children's books for Riley Children's Hospital as part of Alpha Chi's literacy project.
