Band Clinic concludes with free concert

Huntington, Ind. " Huntington College's Music Department culminates its 23rd annual Band Clinic with a gala concert Sunday, March 17, 2002, at 3 p.m. in the Merillat Centre for the Arts. Second Lieutenant Bryan Miller of the Illinois Air National Guard will wield the baton for the afternoon's entertainment. Miller is the Commander and Conductor of the Air National Guard Band of the Midwest. He has traveled the United States and Europe as a trumpet soloist and is presently the director of instrumental ensembles for the Leyden High Schools and trumpet instructor for undergraduate and graduate music majors at VanderCook Musical College.
Along with a few selections by John Phillip Sousa "a tradition at this annual event "the program features a Children's March, where the children in the audience get a chance to direct the orchestra, and excerpts from Johan de Maij's Symphony No. 1, entitled Lord of the Rings . In addition, Dr. George Killian professor of choral education and choir director, will be the tenor soloist for America the Beautiful , and serve as narrator.
Soprano Joni Killian, adjunct applied voice professor, will also be featured in America the Beautiful , and in the opera performance of Musetta's Waltz .
Visiting from Massachusetts, Senior Airman Ray Dandurand will highlight his xylophone talent during a solo performance in Fiddle Faddle . Dandurand is a senior music education and percussion performance major at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. He studies with Eduardo Leandro and has recently attended the Leigh Howard Stevens Summer Marimba Seminar. He served active duty in the Air Force for four years, doing extensive tours in Saudi Arabia, Turkey and England.
Free tickets for priority admission to Sunday's concert are available from the Merillat Centre box office, weekdays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Guests without tickets will be seated after 2:45 PM, as space is available.
