BandFest 2000 planned at Huntington College

HUNTINGTON, IN-Some of America's finest military and civilian musicians will offer personalized instruction to high school students during Huntington College's 21st annual band clinic. "BandFest 2000" will be held at the Merillat Centre for the Arts on the Huntington College campus, Saturday and Sunday, March 25 and 26. The annual event draws high school musicians from throughout the Midwest. Students and directors interested in attending the band clinic should register by March 20. Registration costs $20 and includes a Saturday luncheon. Students needing overnight accommodations may request lodgings at no additional cost. The clinic begins on Saturday at 9 a.m. and will feature instruction by guest conductor CWO4 Roxanne M. Haskill, Head of the United States Marine Corps Music Program, Washington, DC; The Brass Quintet of the US Marine Corps Band, New Orleans; individuals from the 566th US Air Force Band, Chicago, IL; the 38th Infantry Division Band, Indianapolis; and Gunnery Sergeant Marty Rector, US Marine Corps Band, Miramar, CA, percussionist. Civilian specialists will provide instruction for each band instrument. During the day, lectures and demonstrations will be included among full band and sectional rehearsals.
As a special event within Saturday's sessions, the Marine Brass Quintet will present a short concert from 6:30 - 7:15 p.m., in the Merillat Centre for the Arts auditorium. The public is invited to attend; no tickets are needed.
BandFest 2000 will conclude with a gala concert Sunday afternoon at 2:30 in the Merillat Centre for the Arts auditorium. Soloists for the BandFest 2000 concert will be Sergeant Mary Rector (xylophone) and vocalist Maestro Jeffrey Taylor of the Chicago Lyric Opera. Free tickets for reserved seating are available by visiting the Merillat Centre box office, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call (260) 359-4261 for further ticket information. While ticket holders will have priority seating, those without tickets will be admitted at 2:15 p.m., as seating is available.
