Bouquets - from the garden to your table

Huntington, Ind. "The Huntington College Women's Auxiliary will hold its Spring Breakfast Saturday, March 16, at 9 a.m., in the Habecker Dining Commons. Jeannie Myers, owner and manager of Town and Country Flowers, will give a talk entitled, "Bouquets, Bouquets, Bouquets...from the Garden to your Table." Mrs. Myers will speak about getting flowers to Huntington and into the places you want them. She will share about the time frames in which she has to order and where she has to order to get both the common, such as daisies and carnations, and the exotic, such as pineapples and orchids. She will then tell how she takes care of those plants once they arrive at her shop and what you can do to preserve their freshness.
Following her presentation, Brenda Schenkel and Crystal Hutchinson, also professional florists at Town and Country Flowers, will discuss and demonstrate design techniques for arrangements. They will choose two techniques in particular and help each person attending to make a simple arrangement to take home.
The meeting will be complimented with special musical selections from Huntington College students, Laurel Miller, soprano, Katie Hultman, soprano, and Jud Yutzy, piano. A short business meeting will occur to update women on the four year Baker/Roush Dormitory project that the Huntington College Auxiliary has been working on. In the fall, contributory members provided enough money for reupholstering and refinishing of chairs and couches for the Baker/Roush lounge. The 2001 Garage Sale brought in $1200, which was used to provide furniture for the Baker Hall entries.
Community women are invited to join the Huntington College Auxiliary women for breakfast and flowers. Come and enjoy the company and learn about florists and their work and take home a delightful memento. Breakfast will be a buffet of egg soufflé, muffins, and fruit for $5.50.
