Burman exhibits sculptures in Wilson Gallery

Huntington, Ind.-Michael D. Burman, Huntington University adjunct faculty member, is exhibiting in the university's Robert E. Wilson Gallery through Oct. 4. The exhibit features mixed-media sculptures from Burman's 2007 Master of Fine Arts thesis work for Bowling Green State University.
An artist's reception will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 12.
Burman holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in sculpture from Bowling Green State University and a Bachelor of Arts in visual art and sculpture from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. He has taught courses in 3D foundation and foundation drawing. In addition, he has served as a guest judge for the Spectrum Gallery in Toledo, Ohio.
"My work process is about as chaotic as it gets," Burman says in his artist's statement. "Using the broadest possible understatement, I'll just say it gets noisy, dusty and a bit disorganized. I like it that way. It's a constant physical reminder that clarity can come from chaos. I just hope the chaos in the process is outweighed by its absence in the product. Maybe that's the best anyone can do. Seek a balance."
