Class of 2012 gives HU spiritual parting gift

HUNTINGTON, Ind. The Class of 2012 left a significant spiritual parting gift for future Foresters.

Senior class president Sarah Martindale announced at Commencement that the class will be providing Huntington University with the means to build a prayer patio outside of the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

"We came to the conclusion that there are prayer rooms, but there's no place outside that is set aside for a person to go to and spend time with God," Martindale said. "We concluded a prayer area would work well."

The prayer patio will be a 15-foot circular pad of brick pavers with an image of a cross embedded in the center. It also will include several bronze plaques with scripture verses, pedestal lights and a couple of benches at the perimeter of the patio.

Tom Ayers, executive vice president for operations and treasurer at HU, said that as of yet there is no date set for the completion of the patio, but the university anticipates it to be open by the fall.
