Dr. Suellen Reed to speak at Foundation breakfast

Huntington, Ind. " Dr. Suellen Reed, Indiana's superintendent of public instruction, will be the guest speaker at this month's breakfast of the Huntington College Foundation, Wednesday, October 11, at the Habecker Dining Commons. Dr. Reed is currently touring the State for a series of town meetings focusing on accountability efforts, professional development for teachers and staff, and school safety. The breakfast line will open at 7:45 a.m. The program will end by 9:00 a.m. The cost of the breakfast is $6.00 per person. First-time guests are not charged. The presentation will be of particular interest to local school officials and teachers, business leaders, parents, and concerned citizens.
As superintendent of public instruction, Dr. Suellen Reed is Indiana's Chief State School Officer, chairing the State Board of Education and serving as CEO of the Indiana Department of Education. She was elected in November 1992 and was reelected to a second four-year term in November 1996.
Dr. Reed has served in virtually every position in which one can serve in the education field, having been a teacher at elementary, middle and high school levels, assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent. Her areas of expertise include international education, gifted and talented education, elementary education and history, political science and curriculum.
She has a B.A. from Hanover College and Masters and Doctorate degrees from Ball State University. In addition, she has done graduate work at Indiana University, Purdue University, Indiana State University, Earlham College, the University of Scranton, Butler University, Florida Atlantic University, and the University of Virginia at Edinburgh University, Scotland. Dr. Reed has visited schools in Japan, Singapore, the former U.S.S.R., United Kingdom, China, and Germany.
